Nothing Special

This picture sums up my efforts from the beginning of this year.  This is my booth at the Treasures of the Earth Pottery Show and Sale at the Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby.  This show will be up through March 9.  If you have time, you should definitely check it out.

I have to be honest.  I've not done a post in a while because I'm really struggling lately.  I've made some pots, but nothing has seemed particularly special.  I'm not proud enough of anything to take many pictures.  I haven't felt like writing.  It's winter and the weather has been gross.  Work is hard right now.  All I want to do is eat chocolate and nap until spring.

I can't do that.  I have to get up and go to work and wear clothes that are somewhat unforgiving of a lifestyle that includes a lot of chocolate and not much exercise. I have to go to the studio because there are things that need to be made.  Here are a few of the things that needed to be made...

This is a plate that I made for Mom.  She wanted something for cakes that would fit inside her cake carrier and not have too much of a rim on the outside edge.  There are perks to having a potter in the family I suppose.  It worked out great.  I even liked it.

I'm working on some soup bowls for my aunt Marilyn.  I tried a few different things for her and we've settled on this shape.  Her bowls will be made of white clay so that we are more likely to get the colors that she wants from the glazes.

I decided that I needed some bakers. These will end up being kind of medium sized.

Last Thursday night's throwing efforts.  It was supposed to be 3 jars and 3 pitchers.  I'm not having pitcher success lately.

Three mugs (to go with 3 others that I'd made the week before) and two big bakers.  These got handles on Saturday.  The "oval" in the foreground doesn't look too big, but the round one in the back is going to be a monster.

Ok, this made me laugh.  That's a tiny level that Gail made. Gail gets the Griffin Studios "Precision Pottery" award. The rest of us are just slapping clay around while she's measuring to see if the rims of her cups are level.  Thanks also to Lisa for allowing her cup to be photographed.
